Cheap plastic.
**** fantastic customer service. They immediately reached out and helped resolve the issue. Very thankful for them.So frustrating. I ordered one for my daughter for Christmas. The first one came with a broken stem. They wouldn’t replace it, so I had to return it and order another one (and the price had gone up). Got the 2nd one in and it wasn’t broken, so I thought we were good. My daughter opened it Christmas morning and the upper and lower stems will not attach. It just slides right out. We were supposed to leave for the beach tomorrow where she was going to use it and now it’s worthless. Very frustrating.
Found so many things in my backyard already. The headphones are on the cheap side but they do work fine and will come in handy at the beach. In my yard I don't use them, no need to be quiet. The shovel is good quality and the holder for it is cheap but works fine. The carry case is on the cheaper end but works fine and is nice to have. This metal detector is not heavy duty so it's definitely great for beginners. The velcro strap is also on the low quality side. It is adjustable for varying heights though which helps. Easy to assemble, takes only a few minutes. The head disc angle is adjustable which is also a nice feature. If you are doing this for a hobby this is a great set to start with. For the price you can't go wrong.
I've used this at the beach, the bay, mountains, back yard, and the creek. I like this metal detector.- It's detected metal objects as far as 18 inches underground for me. It detects even very small objects.-The bottom coil is easily adjustable with a simple touch of the foot when requiring a different angle for detecting different slopes on the fly.-It lasts a very long time on just two 9v batteries.-Detects metal object in the creek when hovering over several inches of water.-At the beach, I adjusted the sensitivity to 4 or 5 bars to avoid constant mis-hits due to the saturation of the sand and possibly the salinity of the water. I haven't figured out yet if/how I can detect objects with the coil actually submerged in water.-The pinpointer works great. Just takes a little practice. I highly suggest buying a separate small handheld pinpointer to go along with this metal detector (this will help you save a lot of time and find those smaller objects before giving up.) With this Ricomax, I (1) get the hit, (2) use the pintpointer function, then (3) pinpoint with my small handheld pinpointer.-It's easy to use. Any beginner can figure it out after reading the directions.-This metal detector has provided hours and hours of entertainment and excitement.-I've detected with this in the pouring rain, by just fashioning a plastic bad around the top and pressing the buttons through the plastic bag.I love this and use it literally every week. A great hobby. I'm glad after looking at lots of reviews that I picked this one. Not a bad price, and I imagine it has the same functionality as some of the higher priced ones.
So I'm new to detecting and I didnt have the money to spend on a higher end detector yet. So as a starter I decided to buy this one. It was pretty easy to set up. It's super light weight. I like how it has a lot of features that some of the higher end models have. I also like how it's water proof. It does feel a little bit flimsy and cheap but It works well enough considering the price. I've used it the past couple days. I did notice sometimes it doesnt always pick up a target on the first swing while open air testing. Kind of concerning as the point of a metal detector is to find metal objects that you dont know are there. Although there is a bunch of settings for sensitivity and discrimination to play with, so I cant exactly blame the machine yet. I will say, it doesnt do it all the time and I have found tons of stuff while detecting in my yard. Sometimes you'll get a little beep and have to keep swinging in the general area to try and find it again and the numbers will jump all over the place. These are usually junk items such as pull tabs, bits of metal flashing, iron, etc. But ricomax does say in the instructions that this will sometimes happen with junk targets. Every coin or decent thing I've found does seem to have a consistent beep and number. Also the accuracy of the number for the target seems to be pretty spot on. So I think it's just a matter of learning how the machine works and getting used to the different tones and how the machine acts to certain targets... Same as most machines I'm guessing. The depth of which it can find a target seems pretty decent. So far I think the deepest thing I've found was about 8". Not too bad. Overall I think this is a good starter machine with good features, good depth, and decent accuracy, and for the price you really can't ask for more. I would definitely reccomend this to someone who wants to get started detecting and doesnt have a bunch of money to spend on a higher end unit. It will absolutely get you out swinging, finding things, and having fun in the process.
Bought this for my young grandchildren. Easy to put together and they had fun finding treasures (nails and screws) in the backyard. Works very well. Will be taking it on vacation in Utah in search of “gold and diamonds” . Definitely worth the price and so far has been accurate.
