This is a long and honest review, so keep that in mind as you read this.the TL:DR version - Absolutely worth the price if you're looking for a beginner drone. It's a great drone to ensure that you have the dexterity and ability to fly. Its fun, easy to use and you wont find anything better at the price point.Long version:Some background on me, I fly video drones for video projects and racing drones for fun (even though they're technically racing drones I actually do more freestyle flying). To start, I bought this drone because I wanted to find something that I could use for a "kid flight school" and also just have fun at my nearby park without the worry of losing/breaking one of my really expensive drones.I wasnt really sure what to expect since I have bought way too many sub $100 drones and ended up returning them after the 1st flight.Once I opened the box, I was surprised that it looks like a baby version of the Phantom 4, which is not a bad thing. It actually looks good, and I was so happy with all of the extras and spare parts that it brought. One pretty fun surprise was the notebook that came with it, which I have my kid use as a flight log (since a good drone pilot always keeps track of this).Getting started is pretty easy:- Charge the Drone- Read the Manual while the drone is charging- Grab 4 x AA Batteries for the controller- Make sure everything is tightened (which is was but my experience with other drones has been bad)- Once drone is done being charged, press a few buttons and you're ready to flyAs an experienced pilot - I flew the drone indoors, and for the most part, it was stable and did what I wanted. I kind of made it into an indoor quarantine game to be honest.I also flew the drone outdoors during a calm day, and it worked as good as a more expensive drone. I also got to use some of the added features, and it actually worked pretty well. However, when the wind started blowing, it was time to land and wait for the calm. The app options also seemed to work surprisingly well, but I'll be honest and say, I did not spend too much time on them.I like to start with the bad:- The Camera quality could be better, its not bad, but its not great. It's good enough for some standard quality stuff, but again, its a sub $100 drone.- Outdoor stability was good as long as the wind is calm, but as soon as there is a strong gust it does sway a bit. This is more than likely because its really light, but its one thing to keep in mind.- Lack of warning beeps or sensors. Since i've been spoiled, these are features that I missed on this drone, but it does make sure that the pilot works on skill.- Radio distance/range - I'd say about 100-150 ft would be the max comfort zone for this drone.- AA batteries for the controller - I get why, and that batteries are cheap, but ugh.Now for the Good:- Quality - its plastic, but it held up really well when my kid crashed it. We brushed off the leaves, and it took off right after. This is a huge deal for us.- Flight time was about 8 minutes per battery, which for the size and charge time is really really good.- I already mentioned that the drone is really light (which kind of sucks with the wind), but it makes it really easy for transport. I basically put it back in the box it came in, then into a backpack and I can ride my bike to the park.- The included hardware - This is actually awesome, and I cant stress this enough. It even included prop protectors, which is extra for the larger more expensive drones.- The app features are actually kind of cool, I think im going to check out what the next model up brings- It was so easy to use, I really didnt even have to read the manual, but im glad I did to learn about the added app features.- PRICE! Seriously for this price, this is the best bang for buck. This drone is not for shooting movies, or racing. This is the perfect drone to master the mechanics of how a quadcopter works! Before you upgrade to the next steps use this drone and get comfortable. We've all heard of someone who lost or crashed a $1K drone, and TRUST ME if you start here, you'll know better! Happy Flying!
I purchased this to learn how to fly drones. My goal is to move up to larger, more sophisticated drones and incorporate them into my existing Realestate photography business. The package came with no damage and everything was included as described. I opened the box and immediately started charging the batteries...I purchased an additional 3 and charging hub with the drone. I went over the instructions, which were basic but enough to get you in the air, and by the time the batteries were charged I was ready to fly.I went into my garage, moved the cars and shut the door. Even though it was rather inexpensive, I didn't want to loose it on the first throttle up. Well, I didn't need to worry. After syncing the wifi I made sure it was on slow speed and then hit engine start . Props began spinning and I slowly moved the throttle up...left stick. It immediately ascended to about 5 ft and I let go of the throttle. It maintained it's hight and started drifting right so I started moving the right stick to the left and it came back and I landed...First flight Success! From there I couldn't stop. It took very little time to learn to control the drone. I did crash hard about 5 times learning to rotate the drone with the left stick, but there was no damage to the drone. I did have the prop guards on or I'm sure I would have broken a prop or two. I made an imaginary course in the garage with 2 landing points and within an hour I was flying the course with ease..I downloaded the app and used it to see the video as its being taken...very cool and works flawlessly so far. I don't have any good video yet but thats because I'm still learning to control the drone, but the footage I do get is decent quality. Today I'm taking it out of the garage and and letting it soar...well, maybe up to 50 ft or so, we'll see.My opinion this drone is well worth the money if your looking for a starter drone. I would also recommend you buy the additional 3 batteries and charging hub...batteries only last 8-10 minutes each.I think learning how to fly drones without GPS is an important step on your journey to more advanced machines, and this little drone delivers on price, performance, and durability.
